From Silicon Valley to YouTube: A Leap of Faith
Ian Lee and Eric Chen, both Taiwanese-Americans, left their high-paying jobs in Silicon Valley to pursue a more meaningful path. Ian, a former Apple packaging engineer, and Eric, a certified actuary, decided to return to Taiwan and start their YouTube channel, The DoDo Men, in February 2020. Their mission: to inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and embrace new experiences.
Embracing Challenges and Adventures
The DoDo Men’s content revolves around taking on various challenges, traveling to unfamiliar places, and trying out new professions. Their videos often feature spontaneous adventures, such as deciding travel destinations by throwing darts at a map or attempting to survive in foreign countries with limited resources. This approach has resonated with many viewers, earning them a loyal fanbase known as “Dolphins.”
Achievements and Recognition
Since their inception, The DoDo Men have achieved significant milestones. They reached 100,000 subscribers in August 2020, 500,000 in October 2021, and surpassed 1 million subscribers by March 2024. Their unique content and positive message have garnered them awards, including the “Group Creator of the Year” at the 6th Annual Walk Bell Awards in 2024.
Beyond YouTube: Podcasts and Collaborations
Expanding their reach, The DoDo Men launched a podcast titled “跳脫Do式圈” in April 2023, discussing topics related to personal growth and stepping out of comfort zones. They have also collaborated with various brands and appeared on multiple media platforms, further solidifying their influence in the digital space.
